Istanbul Offshore Club has been organizing the Turkish Offshore Championship since 2003. The races became International in 2006 and starting from 2008, with the decision of the World Powerboating Authority, the U.I.M., the Turkish Offshore Championship will officially start as “World Offshore 225 Championship”.
Offshore racing is among the most exciting motor sports in the World. Istanbul Offshore Club has been organizing races in Turkey since 2003 and is proud to add a totally new series to the existing series of UIM. With the initiative taken by the IOC, UIM accepted to call the Turkish local series a World Championship Series in 2008.
Offshore races are among the most elite sports that attract serious sponsors and large number of viewers. Being one of the most exciting extreme sports, offshore races are followed by many viewers and a large group of media. Offshore racing is a tough sport demanding both physical and mental performance. Speed, power, courage and concentration are vital. Besides sheer performance, it requires an incredible team work.
Race boats are equipped with state of the art safety devices and environment friendly engines. Race courses are kept short to enable much more understandable live broadcasts on television, to provide the viewers with good vantage points to watch the whole race and to ensure maximum safety.
IOC is still the only club that enforces a mandatory Pit Stop. This has now become a part of World Offshore 225 Championship.
Offshore powerboat races’ core values are creating a difference by establishing one’s own worth, becoming pioneers, being extraordinary, powerful, professional, brave, young and dynamic. Sponsors that share the same outlook and have similar values are an essential part of the races.
World Offshore Championship plays an important role in “Turkey’s Promotion Mission” thanks to live broadcasts.
Sponsorships receive the highest returns in offshore races among other motorsport events. So far news channels like NTV, CNN Türk, SKY Türk and Star TV, popular youth channel Number One TV have broadcasted these races live in Turkey since the earlier days. For the past four years, the championship has been broadcast live by SHOW TV, one of the leading Nation Wide stations in Turkey, which also broadcast all around Europe. Starting in 2008, there will be a weekly program about the races on SKY Türk. A Telemarketing TV channel, Estore TV will also do an extensive coverage of the races along with selling its merchandising products. Championship is widely covered by the printed media, as well. Metro FM radio sponsorship started in 2007 season and will continue in 2008. In addition to the wide coverage of the races, Metro FM adds fun with exciting contests. Published mainly to cover the Championship races, Powerboats & Yachts Magazine provides excellent returns for the sport and sponsors.
As the races are held in the seas and lakes of big metropoles and not in dedicated areas, the viewers can enjoy the races freely. The exciting and competitive atmosphere is followed by large audiences.
The race courses are selected based on the principle of promoting Turkey’s important locations. For instance, Haliç (Golden Horn) is a very important location of historical value and the fact that it has been cleaned with considerable efforts for future generations is something that the whole world should be informed of. Similarly, races in some of Turkey’s best marinas are of promotional importance.
Your support in this cause will enable the events to reach masses and offshore racing will find its place in the sports world much faster.
